When you start getting organised and preparing for court (which can take years) you need to start tracking everything you spend on the children for your financial separation and in some cases on yourself (spousal maintenance).
You need to track how much time you and your ex have the children each week (it's counted via heads on beds - how many nights per fortnight is a calculation based on "head on a bed" in your home or in your ex's home in Australia). This affects you child support payments; whether the payment comes from the government or your ex partner. This all needs to be continually documented.
Sometimes (if not often) arrangements can change, sometimes communication breaks down. It’s really time consuming and frustrating but you need to note all the changes and any communication that might affect outcomes. Noting it all, as it happens will make life easier for you in the long run.
